Karen K / Encouragement

Grandma Lainie was a very encouraging person. Looking back at the times I spent with Grandma and our phone conversations remind me of one very consistent memory I have about her. She always encouraged me to strive to be my best at whatever I told her I was doing at the time; even the silly things. About ten years ago when she came to visit us in Maryland she joined us in watching some home videos. One home video was a comical acting skit similar to the humor you see on Saturday Night Live. Grandma Lainie adored this home video and thought it was hilarious. She went on and on telling me how I should get into acting and how good I was at it. I just chuckled at the idea but Grandma Lainie was serious. She told me how beautiful I was and she meant it. I bashfully laughed but she grabbed my shoulders and looked me right in the eye and told me I was beautiful and that I could really become an actress if I wanted to pursue it. Her conviction made me believe it! She made me feel good. She made me feel special. This is just one memory I wanted to share about Grandma. I miss Grandma Lainie. I wish I could call her up right now and tell her I love her. I wish I could tell her she has a beautiful Great-Grandson who she would just delight over. I wish I could tell her I was coming to visit. I wish I could tell her thank you; thank you for being so encouraging. Karen Elaine Young
